Robert Whitman Local Report
Robert Whitman Local Report documents the five performances that made up Local Report in the summer of 2005, in which 30 participants at five venues went out into their communities and, using video cell phones, generated video clips and sound descriptions of their localities. The exhibition catalogue contains more than six hundred video-frame captures and full transcriptions of the audio transmissions from each of the five performances. Edited by Julie Martin, the book includes her essay on the making of Local Report and an essay by Bettina Funcke on Whitman's many telecommunications works. It concludes with Whitman's instructions and a technical how-to article for those interested in producing their own Local Report. The catalogue was published on the occasion of the 2007 sound and video installation, Robert Whitman Local Report, at the Lafayette College Williams Center Art Gallery, Easton, Pennsylvania.
