Rock's Role (After Ryoangi)
Ryoangi is one of the most famous Zen gardens in Japan, as well as the title of a series of audio pieces by John Cage. Rock's Role organizes 17 young sound artists that follow in Cage's footsteps. Classifying sounds as either "sand" or "rocks" (Ryoangi is a rock garden), the artists overlay and remix percussion and glissandi to create unique meditations and soft sound environments.
